If you can’t find a spouse who supports your career, stay single

Being a 35-year-old, Indian (north, Punjabi), a single woman; I get these questions quite often

Why you are still single?
How your family allowed you to make such a choice?
Is it not difficult to live without a safety net?

It is not that I did not try to find a partner for myself
I talked to/met almost 300 potential partner prospects (post my break-up of a 6-year-long relationship) including corporate professionals, doctors, pilots, actors, entrepreneurs, Mr. X…

In my experience, I found
– every prospect liked a good-looking woman to be their potential partner
– most prospects wanted their ‘to be a partner’ to be well-educated
– only some of them were able to have a clear & structured conversation (any topic)
– none was interested in knowing how I was formed as an individual
– and, similarly most lacked clarity about themselves

So, I mostly walked out because (I found or perceived)
– most were NOT OK for me to be involved with my family at a financial level
– most were NOT READY to accept & embrace someone who can make and own decisions
– some of them were also trying to shift but they seemed FAR, so many of those turned into friends (if willing)

The article below resonates with me AND to me, it’s not about just your career but LIFE at large
Decision-making (or influencing) is one of the most important experiences of being human – no matter if it’s about career, family, community…
I made good and some really wrong decisions
But, it gives meaning to my life…

So, I chose to put up with small fights, and smaller inconveniences in life
To me, CLARITY is power whether you are single or with a partner

Don’t shy in reversing wrong choices/decisions you made; big & wrong decisions take time to reverse so persistence is a key ingredient.

pause, reflect, and ACT FORWARD
