We met in late 2020…
In early 2021, our coaching relationship got deeper
Her top 2 priorities were – 1) to get a laptop 2) to pay her loan (~$1000) apart from day-to-day expenses
On exploration – I found she is making <$1 per hour part-time which was barely enough to meet her day-to-day expense. She is into media & journalism and expressed her WHY to continue part-time…it made sense to me
BUT to meet either or both of her priorities – she had to work on how she can raise her avg income… recognizing I do not have any experience in media so our discussions always led to foundational questions for her…she hunted those answers for herself. This raised her self-belief and I only kept pushing her in that direction for a few months (till mid-2021)
Life went on, fast forward another 6 months
Jan 2022 – she sends me this lovely THANK YOU note, I got intrigued we discussed her present situation; now she makes anywhere between $10-70 per hour with similar part-time working hours.
Now, she has enabled herself with a new laptop – this will allow her to learn & upskill more… and towards further growth
I particularly like when I see any woman becoming financially independent, but this was beyond inspirational for unparalleled growth in such a short time
As I reflect, I learnt
– It’s critical to ask the right questions AND those could be difficult to accept BUT once we accept then we move in the right direction
– Self-belief is an unmatched force within all of us; its how we enable an environment for others around us so that they can thrive
– Hierarchy has no role in a true coaching setup; we learn from each other
