Difficult conversations open doors to opportunities; only if we allow

She is 11 and being raised by a single parent
I asked her mother if she ever had a heart-to-heart conversation with her daughter about her separation
And, not to my surprise, her answer was ‘No’ because she found it difficult
This was unsettling for me…

I decided to have a conversation with her
It was the first time for me and for her but there was openness and a space to express
She had lots to share – her opinions, her fears, her ambitions, and much more
Of all, her biggest worry was…how will she secure financial stability for her family given they don’t have their father along?
It was the same insecurity that I faced when I lost my father…
I politely conveyed it’s an opportunity to ‘step up and whenever she finds herself ready – I can coach her. Her eyes lit up 😊

My simple question is – should we normalize & make it easy to have ‘difficult conversations in our day-to-day lives? At work? At home? to fight our fears, to unlock potential, to lead a life with clarity…

PS: I had to prepare myself to have this conversation to ensure its carefully and mindfully conducted AND it was worth my time

#inclusiveleadership #difficultconversations #generationequality

We went out for a coffee last Christmas to have this conversation in a conducive environment
